Pronunciation tips · Cómo pronunciarlo
- “Diez” rhymes with “yes,” pronounced dyes with the d lightly touching the teeth.
- Nueve has a “w” glide: NWEH-beh. The v sounds like a soft b in Spanish.
- “Fuerte” = strong, FWER-teh. It is also the everyday word for “intense” pain.
Common mistakes · Errores comunes
- Using the scale with no anchor. Say what 0 and 10 mean every time, or the numbers will mean different things to different people. · Explica el 0 y el 10.
- Expecting a number from everyone. Some patients prefer words (“poco,” “mucho”). Record the words they use. · Anota sus palabras.
- Forgetting to reassess. Ask again after medicine: “¿Cómo está ahora?” · Vuelve a preguntar.
Before you rely on a phrase list · Antes de usar frases
Some older patients find numbers hard. A faces scale or hand gestures (“poco, regular, mucho”) work as a backup. Record the number and the words the patient uses.
Si los números no funcionan, usa «poco, regular o mucho» y gestos.
